CMA Guidelines

Updated 21st January 2025

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has specific compliance requirements for funeral directors to ensure transparency and fairness in pricing and services. Here’s a summary of the key points from the CMA’s compliance checklist for funeral directors:

  • Standardised Price List: Display a Standardised Price List in your branch and on your website (if you have one). This list should be easily accessible and follow the exact terms and structure required by the CMA2.
  • Additional Options Price List: Provide an Additional Options Price List for services not included in the Standardised Price List, such as additional mileage, embalming, and collection and delivery of ashes.
  • Local Crematorium Operators’ Prices: Display prices for local crematorium operators.
  • Terms of Business: Clearly outline your terms of business, including deposits and late payment fees.
  • Disclosure of Interests: Provide information about any potential conflicts of interest, including donations and affiliations.
  • Prohibited Practices: Ensure compliance with the prohibited practices requirements, such as avoiding misleading pricing and unfair terms.
